Mt. Aso has a circumference of approximately 128km and is said to be one of the world's largest volcanoes. It is a symbol of Kumamoto, the Land of Fire, and offers a premier landscape. The Bungo Kaido is approximately 125km of a Higo domain sankin-kotai (alternate attendance) road connecting the Kumamoto castle town (Kumamoto Prefecture) and Tsuruzaki (Oita Prefecture). Today it remains a tourist spot with stone pavements and historical remains.
