At Kora Taisha, the Ichinomiya of Chikugo and a shrine for warding off evil and promoting longevity, on New Year's Eve a ceremony to burn old amulets is held in the morning, and in the evening a ritual called "Toshikoshi no Oharae" is performed to purify the year's misfortunes by transferring them to paper dolls and washing them away, followed by the year-end purification ceremony at the main hall (visitors may enter the hall). At midnight on New Year's Day, a sacred fire ceremony is held signaled by the beating of a large drum, and the first prayer ceremony of the year is also conducted at this time.
