Growing in mineral-rich soil, Shirako onions are thick-fleshed, high in sugar content, and almost as sweet as fruit. The event features direct sales of these onions, local specialty products, food stalls, and demonstrations by various organizations. The 'onion digging experience' is not held on the event day itself, but from May 1 to 31, visitors can experience 'onion picking' at farms in Shirako Town.
