A light-up event at Kurokawa Onsen in Oguni, Kumamoto, one of Japan's premier hot spring resorts in northern Kyushu. Started in winter 2012, this is the 14th year in 2025. Originally begun as part of bamboo thinning and regeneration activities to protect the local environment from abandoned bamboo forests, it has now become a winter tradition of Kurokawa Onsen. About 300 spherical 'Mari lanterns' and cylindrical 'Tsutsu lanterns' about 2 meters tall are arranged to blend into the natural scenery, lit from 17:30 to 21:30.
