Held every May 1, the Takaoka Mikurumayama Festival features magnificent hikiyama floats showcasing the finest traditional crafts of Takaoka. It began when the city's founder, Lord Maeda Toshinaga, gave to the townspeople what had been received from Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and boasts 400 years of history. Designated as an Important Tangible and Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan and registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016. Experience up close the finest traditional crafts of Takaoka, a city of manufacturing.
