Ueno Hill is a famous cherry blossom spot known since the Edo period. After Kanei-ji Temple was founded, Tenkai Sojo, who loved cherry blossoms, had them transplanted from Mt. Yoshino. During the cherry blossom viewing season, it is one of the leading hanami spots bustling with nearly 4 million visitors in total (one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots). At the "Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival," dances at the Kiyomizu-do precinct, flower markets, and open-air antique markets are held, and after sunset about 800 bonbori lanterns are lit, allowing you to enjoy night cherry blossoms as well. The park also has facilities such as art museums, museums, and a zoo, so strolling is also enjoyable.
