Started in November 2012 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the station building’s opening, with the wish to brightly illuminate the future of visitors as the gateway to Kyoto. About 15,000 LEDs scattered across 125 of the 171 steps vividly color the Kyoto Station Building at night. During the Christmas season in December, illuminations unique to Christmas such as trees and champagne glasses can be enjoyed, and from January onward, illuminations matching the season such as snow crystals can be enjoyed.
