On the course of Kagoshima's three major events, the 'Myoenji Pilgrimage,' from Chest Hall heading toward the Ijuin urban area, you can enjoy about 4 km of cherry tree rows along the sidewalk. Shiroyama Park is the site of Ijuin Castle (also called Ichiuji Castle locally), a mountain castle where Lord Shimazu Yoshihiro spent his childhood. Beautiful kuruwa (castle enclosures) still remain. Spring cherry blossoms are beautiful, but there are also October cherries that bloom in October. There is also a tower at the summit, offering a panoramic view of the urban area. It bustles with hanami visitors from late March.
