A temple said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku, also famous as a distinguished pilgrim's lodging. The seated statue of Prince Shotoku enshrined in the Goma-do hall was created during the Nanboku-cho period. The garden 'Gunpoen' is said to have been designed by Sen no Rikyu and later renovated by Hosokawa Yusai, and is counted as one of the Three Great Gardens of Yamato. It is a circular-stroll garden, and a walk while enjoying the seasonal flowers is recommended. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom gloriously, and the over-300-year-old weeping cherry tree 'Tennin-no-Sakura' standing by the pond is especially impressive.
