Josenji is an ancient temple said to have been founded in the early Edo period. Within its precincts is a weeping cherry tree about 300 years old, designated as a natural monument of Miyazaki Prefecture, which blooms beautiful pale pink flowers every year from late March to early April. Usually during cherry blossom season, the tree is illuminated, allowing you to enjoy night cherry blossoms at this historic ancient temple (illumination is planned for 2026, but details are undecided). On April 5 (Sat) and 6 (Sun), 2026, the 'Gokase Cherry Blossom Festival (sponsored by Gokase Junior High School)' will be held (planned) at Kijiya.
