A single Edo Higan cherry tree over 500 years old in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. It stands at the hermitage where Sesson, a Zen monk and painter active from the late Muromachi period to the Sengoku period, is said to have spent his later years. With the supple branches characteristic of Edo Higan and lovely pale pink flowers, it continues to bloom powerfully even after long years, as if embodying Sesson's spirituality and passion for art. In silence where only the sound of wind is heard, the green of the bamboo grove in the background and the cherry blossom color play a beautiful contrast. Nearby spreads historic sites related to Sesson and tranquil countryside scenery, so you can feel the spring atmosphere while strolling. Moments of feeling history while viewing the cherry blossoms heal the heart.
