Daigo-zakura has a trunk diameter of 7.1m, root circumference of 9.2m, branch spread of 20m in all directions (north, south, east, west), and a height of 18m. It is of the Azuma-higan variety (a type of Higan-zakura). According to legend, it got its name because in 1332 (Genko 2), Emperor Go-Daigo praised this cherry tree on his way to exile in Oki. Its age is said to be 700 years, and according to local lore, 1,000 years. Every year during full bloom, many people are charmed by this magnificent cherry blossom. Designated as a natural monument of Okayama Prefecture.
