This exhibition will unveil for the first time a sutra container excavated from the Dogatani Sutra Mound, which bears the oldest dated inscription in the prefecture. In addition, 14 items borrowed from the Nara National Museum will be displayed, including sutra containers and scrolls from the Shokei Sutra Mound, making their first return home, and a four-eared jar from the Ishiteji Sutra Mound, highly valued as ceramics. Masterpieces excavated from sutra mounds across the prefecture and buried Buddhist relics will also be introduced. Focusing on the act of burying sutras and the prayers contained within, the exhibition explores the appeal of sutra mounds.
