In Meiji 8 (1875), former clan retainers transplanted cherry trees from the riding ground to Takato Castle Ruins, which had been left in disrepair, marking the beginning of the park's cherry blossoms. Takatokohigan Sakura, an indigenous variety of Takato, blooms slightly smaller and reddish flowers compared to Somei Yoshino. There are about 1,500 cherry trees in the park, called 'the world's number one cherry blossoms' since long ago, famous nationally. '100 Famous Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan'. Night cherry blossom illumination and projector projections are also planned.
