This cherry tree in the precincts of Ganjoji Temple is said to be a mutation of the mountain cherry. It has many flower petals—20 to 30—and is designated as a national natural monument. Chujohime, after whom it is named, fled persecution from her stepmother and wandered from place to place, eventually visiting Ganjoji Temple. At that time, Chujohime had become ill from mental fatigue and the long journey, but she immediately recovered. As a sign of gratitude and a vow to protect women in future generations, she planted one cherry tree. Even now, it blooms delicate flowers in early April.
