Located in a corner of Shiroyama General Park, the Ninomaru castle ruins are said to have been built by Taira no Shigeyori in 1188 (Bunji 4). After many wars, they later came under the rule of the Shimazu clan. There is an observation deck modeled after the castle, and on clear days, from the keep you can take a 360-degree panoramic view of the Kirishima mountain range, distant Sakurajima, and the entirety of Matsuyama Town. This scenic view has been selected as one of the Eight Views of Soo. It is also famous as a cherry blossom spot, with nearly 1,000 cherry trees in full bloom. At night, it is illuminated, allowing you to enjoy night cherry blossoms.
