The Koga Peach Festival is said to have originated when Doi Toshikatsu, the lord of the Koga domain in the Edo period, had peach trees planted in his territory. At the venue, Koga Kubo Park, about 1,800 peach trees of six varieties—Yaguchi, Genpei, Kikumomo, Juseito, Kanpaku, and Terute—bloom in a riot of colors, dyeing the peach grove in vivid pink. During the festival, you can enjoy a flower peach afternoon tea featuring special sweets inspired by the peach blossoms and local sashima tea, as well as a hot air balloon ride (paid) to view the peaches from above. On Saturday, March 21, there will be a special event with illuminated peach blossoms, lanterns, and fireworks.
