Tokuda Shusei was born in the 4th year of Meiji and died in the 18th year of Showa at the age of 73 (counted age). Known as an extremely prolific writer who always referred to himself as a 'lazy one', he continued to have a strong presence as an elder of the literary world along with Shimazaki Toson, one year his junior, even after entering the Showa era. What were his strengths as a writer that sustained his long career of about 40 years? This year, commemorating 'Showa 100', this special exhibition particularly introduces Shusei's later years and his Showa-era literary work.
