Held on the day of the first Hare of the Year in Kinmei Emperor's 32nd year (571), commemorating the manifestation of Hachiman Daijin, this 'Annual Festival' is also called 'Usa Festival' and is the most important ritual among the more than 150 festivals held annually. With the karabitsu containing offerings (heihaku) from the Emperor at the head, Shinto priests in formal ikan tan'i 'seifuku' line up and proceed to the upper shrine (main hall), offering 11 trays of shinsen to each palace, totaling 33 trays, and then dedicate the heihaku bestowed by the Imperial family to the main altar, praying for the peace of the nation and the happiness of the people.
