As sung in the Manyoshu, 'When spring comes, may we be as joyful as the sakikusa (three-branched plant),' yellow honeycomb-shaped flowers bloom all at once in early spring on the tips of three-branched stems. Brought from the continent as a raw material for paper, it is also a raw material for banknotes because it is durable and difficult to tear. The Mitsumata colony in the Hontani district of Ichinomiya Town is along Prefectural Route 8, beside the Saka no Tsuji Pass, and is also a famous spot selected for the 'West Harima Flower Village.' The sweet fragrance of Mitsumata wafts through the colony that fills the steep slope of the cedar forest.
