Kouenji Temple is located on a small hill in the Kokakiyama settlement, with a weeping cherry tree in front-right of its grounds. The trunk is about 3 meters thick, the tree stands over 10 meters tall, and its branches drape over the municipal road in front of the gate, spreading across a 10-meter square area. This ancient tree, said to be over 350 years old and of a rare species, bursts into magnificent fragrant bloom during the flowering season. Blooming period is from late March to early April.
