The coast below the main keep is commonly called 'Shiroshita Coast' and is the origin of the name of the famous 'Shiroshita Karei (flounder).' The poet Takahama Kyoshi's monument inscribed with 'In the sea, pure water gushes and fish grow' is also here. About 100 cherry trees are planted in the park, and in spring, it bustles with many hanami visitors. The view of Beppu Bay with Mt. Takasaki in the distance is breathtaking and has been selected as one of the 100 Scenic Spots of Oita Prefecture and one of the Eight Views of Beppu.
