Mt. Tsurumi (altitude 1,375 m) is located east of Aso-Kuju National Park, and from the summit you can overlook not only the Beppu area but also Mt. Yufu, the Kuju mountain range, and even the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. At Mt. Tsurumi Nature Park 'Shiki no Sato' at about 500 m elevation at the foot of the mountain, about 2,000 Yoshino cherries and other cherry trees bloom. Subsequently, wild mountain cherries climb from the foothills toward the summit over about a month from early April. In mid-April, the rare 'Mamezakura' (Fuji cherry) blooms at the summit.
