Goten-yama was named because it was behind the 'Kanbara Goten' built by Tokugawa Ieyasu. From late March to early April, about 600 Somei Yoshino and Oshima cherry trees rooted throughout the mountain bloom, and looking up at Goten-yama from the Yasaka Shrine grounds, you can enjoy the scenery of the entire mountain dyed in cherry blossom colors. The cherry blossom festival features flower viewing spots (reservation-only), local shop food stalls, and local product sales, with night illumination also held from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM during March 28-April 5.
