平家物語の冒頭に謳われる沙羅。朝に開き夕方には落花する、たった一日だけ咲く純白の花。境内には大小約200本の沙羅の木があちらこちらにある。名勝應聖寺庭園は県指定文化財であり、800円の拝観料には抹茶と菓子セットが付いている。四季を通じて様々な花が境内を鮮やかに彩る。
