Based on books, paintings, postcards, maps, propaganda leaflets, and more published in Japan and abroad during wartime for front-line soldiers and families and citizens on the home front, this exhibition looks back at why the 'masses' were driven to war so enthusiastically, how richly cultural production related to the 'outer territories' existed as its background, and how 'total national mobilization' was culturally practiced through it.
