'Girl with Japanese Hairstyle,' an essential masterpiece for tracing the career of Koiso Ryohei, one of Japan's leading Western-style painters, drew attention at the First Nikakai Exhibition in 1935. Soon after, it crossed the sea and was purchased by the Lee Royal Family Museum, after which its whereabouts became unknown and it was considered a phantom work. In 2008, 'Girl with Japanese Hairstyle' was 'rediscovered' when the National Museum of Korea displayed it in the special exhibition 'Modern Western Painting in Japan.' While the museum had long wished for a homecoming exhibition, this exhibition has now been realized.
