The 'Shiogama-zakura' at Kurosawa Tokuan is said to have been visited by the Meiji-era literary giant Kunikida Doppo. Its name comes from the fact that the scattered petals resemble salt crystals on a salt field. There are two old cherry trees, both several hundred years old, which bloom slightly earlier than Somei Yoshino. Beneath the cherry tree on the right stands the 'Doppo Literature Monument,' inscribed with a passage from 'Azamukazaru no Ki.' The cherry blossoms in full bloom are magnificent, but the petals scattering on the mossy front garden of Tokuan as they begin to fall also have a certain charm.
