The venue is Mogami Park, a popular cherry blossom spot where about 300 cherry trees bloom all at once along the moat in spring. The Kadoyaki Festival is a spring tradition where you can enjoy plenty of Kado-yaki, Shinjo's local specialty. Kado is the local name for herring. Grilled slowly over charcoal, the kado is fatty and satisfying. Known as the fish that announces spring, in Shinjo City, kado arriving with the spring snowmelt has long been grilled and celebrated as a sign of spring.
